This small city car was manufactured by Subaru from 1958 until 1971. It was the first model produced by the company and more than 392,000 were manufactured. The 360 came in a number of body shapes including 2-door sedan, 2-door convertible as well as a 3-door station wagon.

A sports utility truck, the Ridgeline was first marketed by Honda in 2005. It is currently in its second generation and is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine.

The Passport is a rebadged version of the Isuzu Rodeo and first appeared in 1993. This partnership also saw Honda provide passenger vehicles to be rebadged as Isuzus. A compact SUV, the Passport was made for two generations up until 2002 where it was replaced by the Pilot.

A mid-sized station wagon, the Levorg forms part of the Subaru fleet since 2014. The top of the range model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine. It is sold in Japan as well as in Europe.

The FF1 G was a subcompact vehicle available in a number of body styles, including 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan or 5-door wagon. It was designed by Shinroku Momose who had designed the Subaru 360 and 1000. It was available in the early 1970s.

The Exiga is a crossover utility vehicle (CUV) which has formed part of the Subaru fleet since 2008. Essentially a wagon, the Exiga carries five passengers and cargo with ease. The top of the range model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine capable of producing 221 brake horsepower.

Marketed between 1979 and 2001, the Prelude was a two-door sports coupe and a competitor to the Toyota Celica amongst others. Honda produced five generations of this vehicle. The Prelude name actually belonged to Toyota who amicably allowed Honda to use it.

This compact SUV featured as a Honda model from 2000 to 2014. Two generations have been produced over the years and although the car has been made available in Europe, it never entered the American market. The last generation of the Stream is available as either a 5-speed manual or automatic and driven by either a 1.8 or 2.0-liter VTEC engine.

Marketed between 2005 and 2014, the Tribeca is a crossover SUV in the mid-sized range. Only 76,000 units were sold in the United States over a ten-year period despite the fact 50,000 were sold in the first three years!

A joint venture between Toyota and Subaru, the BRZ is exactly the same vehicle as the Toyota 86. First produced in 2012, this two-seat sports car is powered by a 2.0-liter petrol engine coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox.

With its very different looks (strange for the '90s and even to this day), the SVX immediately made heads turn. This 2-door coup grand tourer was produced between 1991 and 1996.

This two-door mid-engined sports car was marketed in the U.S. as the Acura NSX. The first generation of the NSX was built between 1990 and 2005 with the second generation following a decade later in 2016. The current NSX, a hybrid, is powered by a 3.5 L twin-turbo V6 engine and three electric motors.

A mini MPV, the Mobilio Spike was marketed by Honda between 2002 and 2008. Not only is it extremely fuel efficient, but it could carry seven passengers and be set up in five different ways in terms of seating and cargo space. The Mobilio is powered by a 1.5-litre L15A VTEC I4 engine.

The XV first joined the Subaru fleet in 2011. This SUV offers both diesel and petrol engine options. This is essentially an SUV version of the Impreza.

This all-wheel-drive utility vehicle certainly had a unique look. Baja's were powered by 2.5-liter petrol engines with the top of the range model including a turbo. This unique car only managed to sell 30,000 units in around four years.

This export only coupe-utility was never sold in Japan, although many were imported into the country. The BRAT was sold in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Engine options were either a 1.6 or 1.8-liter flat four with either a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission with four-wheel drive.

The Honda Insight, an electric-hybrid vehicle was first marketed as a subcompact car from 1999 until 2006 and then as a compact car from 2007 until 2014. Two generations were introduced during this period with the possibility of a third in 2019. The Insight offers excellent gas mileage figures of over 40 mpg for both city and highway driving.

This small microcar was an update from the Subaru 360 and produced from 1969 to 1972. More than 25,000 orders were placed in the first month of the car having been released in 1969. The R-2 was powered by a 350cc engine.

Marketed over a six-year stretch from 1985 to 1991, this two-door coupe was also known as Alcoyne and Vortex. Powerplant options included either a 1.8 or 2.7-liter petrol engine and certain models even had four-wheel drive. The XT was incredibly aerodynamic and had one of the lowest drag coefficients of all the production cars produced at that time.

This compact MPV was built by Honda between 2004 and 2009. Seating was easily configured and over 32 combinations could be selected. The FR-V had a range of powerplant options, including petrol and diesel power.

Now in its third generation, the Honda Fit is a subcompact car which first entered production in 2001. Current models include either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearbox and either petrol or diesel engine options. This vehicle is known as the Honda Jazz in certain markets.

Also known as the Tutto or Trendy, this three or five-door hatchback was marketed from 1984 to 2010. Engine options on the Justy included either a 1.0 or 1.1-liter petrol drive capable of producing around 50 brake horsepower. Justys marketed in the United States included a 4WD option.

As with many Japanese manufacturers, Subaru is an expert when it comes to producing Kei cars. The Vivio, marketed between 1992 and 1998 is just another example. It was powered by a 650cc motor and had a number of body style options, including two and three-door hatchbacks as well as Targa tops. Vivios even entered a number of rally events in the early 1990s.

The Clarity name badge has been used by Honda on a range of alternate fuel vehicles. It first appeared in 2008 on a four-door sedan powered by a hydrogen fuel cell electric motor and currently on an electric and a plug-in electric vehicle.

Produced between 2010 and 2016, the CR-Z is a three-door sport compact hybrid with coupe styling. The electric engine produces around 14 brake horsepower while the 1.5-liter petrol engine produces 112 brake horsepower.

A performance version of the regular Civic, the Type R was a favorite of boy racers around the globe. First produced in 1997, it is currently in its 5th generation and is available as a 3 or 4-door hatchback or 4-door sedan. The 5th generation is powered by a 2.0-liter engine capable of producing over 300 brake horsepower.

The Subaru 1000 formed part of the Japanese government's classification for compact cars. The 1000 became the first model from Sabaru to use the famed boxster engine, although this small 977cc motor only produced 55 brake horse power. It was available in a number of body formats, including 2-door and 4-door sedan as well as a station wagon.

Produced between 1969 and 1973, the FF1 Star was a development of Subaru's 1000 model. Powered by a 1.1-liter engine, the FF1 Star was even released in the United States in 1970 and 1971.

Marketed in the compact car segment, the Leone was manufactured between 1971 and 1994. During this time, three generations were produced. The Leone (meaning lion) was powered by a range of Boxter engines and owners had the option of four-wheel drive. Built between 1991 and 1996, the Beat was designed by legendary Italian design company, Pininfarina. This two-seat roadster was particularly small and received its power from a 700 cc engine coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Rex, a microcar from Subaru was produced between 1972 and 1992. Unbelievably, early models were powered by a two-stroke 350 cc engine although larger engines were made available, including a 750cc option in second generation export versions of the car.

Since 2012, the Honda Civic has sold more than 1.6 million units in the United States alone. The Civic brand was first introduced by the Japanese automaker in 1972 in the subcompact car bracket. From 2000, however, the Civic has competed in the compact car class. Including sales up until the end of 2015, 18.5 million Civics have been sold worldwide.

Powered by either a 1.0 or 1.2-liter engine, the Sumo was a microvan released by Subaru between 1983 and 1998. With a five-speed manual gearbox, some even had the option of four-wheel drive.
